Anairam Captures Emi in 'Belle de Jour' Not for Vogue Mexico February 2013

On occasion copy writers take the name ‘Belle De Jour’ and words like seductress and siren too far — rendering them meaningless. Having watches several times and written about Catherine Deneuve’s famous classic for years, I fail to see any connection in model Emi’s editorial, lensed by Anairam for Vogue Mexico’s February issue. Valentina Collado styles Emi in Louis Vuitton resort clothes.

For consistency’s sake, I also criticized Rachel Clark’s editorial by Martin Lidell,  Eva Herzigova’s tribute by Jan Welters was more on the mark but still ‘off’. Natasa Vojnovic comes close for Elle Serbia’s December issue.

The Oscar on this subject for recent editorials goes to Eniko Mihalik lensed by Vincent Peters for Vogue Spain’s September issue. The styling and set are nearly perfect renditions of the movie.

In the same way that the powerful goddess Lilith was reduced to nothingness in that recent L’Officiel Thailand , Belle de Jour suffers a similar fate. We will start calling the editorials ‘Belle De Jour Not’ when the copy makes a travesty of the original concept. So there — and you thought blogging was not serious business. I simply can’t wait to see what happens with ‘50 Shades of Grey’. LOL ~ Anne
