Lovecat Mag | Aspiring Photographers for Treats! & Ben Watts

Lovecat Magazine ‘Summer Sex Issue’ Spring 2011 | Ellen von Unwerth SN Living

I feel swept up in a New Eroticism moment. Watching Chanel Iman’s video shot by Jenna Elizabeth for the new Lovecat Magazine, I felt like I was in New York’s Max’s Kansas City back in the day.

Life truly was more authentic then, galvanized by artistic provocation, marches in the streets and a lot of political tension around war, women’s rights, race relations and gay rights.

Chanel Iman in ‘Grown Men Cry’

Next weekend I’ll be marching in a Philadelphia SlutWalk with my good friend Susana Mayer of The Erotic Literary Salon. We’re joining much younger women in protesting the argument that women cause our own sexual assaults by dressing provocatively.

Forgive me for disagreeing, but under burqas women are sexually assaulted. Assault is about power, not provocative dress.

Last month I was energized by the editorials in Treats! an excellent new ‘erotic’ art magazine facing me this moment on my coffee table.

Now we have another entry Lovecat, founded by Prince Peter Chenova and Jacob Dekat. This is all good news for women, because the images are sexy, sensual, erotic and powerful.

Ben Watts for Treats! | Calling All Photographers

Submission Deadline: June 13, 2011

Voting Starts: June 14, 2011

Voting Ends: June 20, 2011

Winner Announcement: June 27, 2011

Indy creatives must take matters into our own hands in today’s world. AOC LOVES this great idea from photographer Ben Watts, who is running a contest on Talenthouse.com.

Ben Watts is searching for an aspiring photographer to join him on a photo shoot with Treats! Magazine to learn invaluable tips and tricks of the trade. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to get behind the scenes with a world renown photographer. Participants are asked to submit one photograph that embodies the theme of ‘energy’. One winner will be chosen to assist Ben on set in Los Angeles, California which will be featured in the 3rd issue of the magazine. The selected photographer will be credited in the same issue for their work and will be provided with travel and 2 nights’ accommodation. The 10 highest voted submissions will each receive a year long subscription to Treats! (4 issues). Read more here.

This is a superb opportunity for aspiring photographers to connect with a first rate group of established creatives. I especially encourage women photographers to get in the game.

I will be sharing my thoughts on the images submitted to Ben Watts on Talenthouse.com by June 13 around the theme of energy. Go, go, go. Anne

I cannot help but notice that the images on both the treats website and lovecat are of the usual size 0- 2 white teenage fashion models. where are the women we want to see? like the large women in the fantastic Vogue Italia shoot? I fail to understand how either of these magazines are "good news" for all women...looks like the same old shit to me.

I hear you speaking and clearly understand and support your pov. I don't think they're the same at all, from a quality standpoint and being produced in America. Treats! may be one of the most successful high-end magazine launches in decades.

I only know the Lovecat group through digital luv. But the Treats! founders I am speaking to. Rest assured that if I become involved in any way in any of the new magazines, your viewpoint will be shared, supported and hopefully acted upon. And I will write a luv note in my Sensually Yours column raising your valid point. Best, A
