Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt | L'Amour in Paris

Brat Pitt, Angelina Jolie and the whole family — including Angelina’s dad Jon Voight are in Paris, where she’s shooting ‘The Tourist’. Reading today’s Daily Mail’s commentary ‘so much for them breaking up’, I signed an unpleasant one, because the DM was aggressive in printing and promoting another Brad|Angie breakup in Jan 2010.

Lawsuits are flying this time. News of the World, the British tabloid that aggressively pushed the breakup story and is owned by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp, splashed the end of the relatonship so far and wide that it ended up in the London Times.

Believing it, we were crushed.

Simply stated, Angelina and Brad are challenging the notion of family, marriage, children, monogamy — it’s clear that we have a very political, activist couple also intent on challenging traditional social mores. As involved as Angelina and Brad are in global issues, I imagine they feel strongly about a certain sense of hypocrisy in the world where some of us are endlessly obsessed with Aniston-Pitt-Jolie and others face death at sundown.

Angelina especially moves in and out of this world regularly, and I’m sure it takes a toll on her personally, no matter how dedicated she is. Brad’s commitment to New Orleans is also very strong, and he’s seen plenty of poverty in the Big Easy.

This couple disappoints many traditionalists because they refuse to assume the virtuous, expected paradigm of Hollywood scripts. Viewed through a European lens, they are more at home than in America. Their partnership and extended family and activist spirits seem more European than American.

All we can say is that we’re happy to see them together ‘en famille’; we honor their privacy and right to define their own lives while using their celebrity stats to raise our global conscience on issues that matter.  Photos Just Jared.com
