Marilyn Monroe & Carl Sandburg | Len Steckler's 'The Visit'
Marilyn Monroe and Carl Sandburg by Len StecklerNew photos of Marilyn Monroe have surfaced and will be sold as a limited edition series called “Marilyn Monroe: The Visit”.
The photographs have lounged in the private archive of Pulitizer-prize photographer Len Steckler since 1961 and feature Marilyn Monroe and Carl Sandburg together.
Marilyn Monroe and Carl Sandburg by Len Steckler“It was serendipitous with these two icons in their moment and me there with my camera,” Steckler told Reuters, saying he was “like a fly on the wall” while he shot Monroe, then 35, and Sandburg, 83, while they chatted and held hands.
Marilyn Monroe and Carl Sandburg by Len StecklerWatching the Steckler interview, we’re reminded that Marilyn Monroe not only loved intellectuals, she wanted to be taken seriously as an intelligent woman and not only as a sex goddess. Reading the ‘The Visit Series’ website, I learned that Sandburg’s brother-in-law was photographer Edward Steichen.
Carl Sandburg married Edward Steichen’s sister Lilian, in a lovely story that just interrupted my French Roast. See Carl Sandburg and the Steichens | The Wisconsin Years.
