Statistics Say Conservatives Buy More Porn

There are editorial posting days that seem more controversial than others. Today has been one of them. If you haven’t noticed the article about Lindsay Lohan on the cover of  the French magazine ‘Purple’ , she has caused a lot of controvery for her blasphemous cover, in which she appears in a pose similar to Jesus.

No comment from me on the taste level of the photo. The point of my post is that French fashion editorial is frequently political, as are the French.

Keeping things simple, the French (and most Europeans) believe Americans are very hypocritical, promoting values of freedom, free speech and human rights … but we have fits and want to legislate a cover such as this one.

The Europeans can read as well as Americans, and they’re privvy to the research done last year about pornography in America. I have private knowledge that confirms the research of Benjamin Edelman at Harvard Business School.

Huge studies of America’s IP addresses have confirmed these same conclusions.

In my case, the top IP address locations associated with a very sophisticated, upscale erotic website were in Mesa, Arizona, home to upper middle-class Mormons who preach aggressively against pornography.

UAE and Saudi Arabia were also in the top 10, along with London, New York, Manchester and I don’t remember the others. The IP addys were all upscale, global communities, which made sense, given the website.

Benjamin Edelman did a much larger survey of credit card addresses from adult subscription websites to a top 10 adult website in America. He confirmed what we know from other research on pornography use.

“Some of the people who are most outraged turn out to be consumers of the very things they claimed to be outraged by,” Edelman says. via New Scientist

The biggest consumer of porn from his client was Utah. In fact eight of the top 10 pornography buying states voted for John McCain, not Barack Obama. The exceptions were Florida and Hawaii. Remember, this is one of the top 10 adult websites, and because I know them, let me say that the top 10 is pretty gross. There’s no attempt to be erotic, soft porn or anything but raw, undiluted pornography.

Southern Baptists vehemently oppose porn, but Mississippi — the largest Southern Baptist state — was the third biggest porn-buying state in the survey of America.

States where a majority of residents agreed with the statement “I have old-fashioned values about family and marriage,” bought 3.6 more subscriptions per thousand people than states where a majority disagreed. A similar difference emerged for the statement “AIDS might be God’s punishment for immoral sexual behaviour.” via New Scientist

This reality is the point of the French magazine editorials about morality in America. The Europeans believe that we are also weak on women’s rights in America, and we are, compared to Europe on many indicators like political representation.

I understand that many Christians believe that women are subordinate to men, based on Biblical mandates. They share this view with Muslims. Therefore, women’s rights aren’t abrogated but merely reflecting the natural order of things and will of God.
