Looking For Marilyn & Finding Old Hollywood Glamour
Researching material on Marilyn Monroe, I came upon Old Hollywood Glamour, a blog I like for several reasons.
It’s a rare woman who doesn’t have any interest in screen stars from the past. Old Hollywood Glamour is edited by a makeup artist, who “straddles the modern and vintage worlds.”
Katie doesn’t post daily … more likely once a week. The posts are comprehensive and very informative on a subject. Her current feature on the Hollywood Museum includes 25-30 photos.
Nov. ‘08 UK Vanity Fair displayed the most striking cover of actress Amy Adams, in a Rita Hayworth inspired editorial. The Old Hollywood Glamour post from Dec. 16, 2008 caught my eye, with its focus on Vanity Fair Magazine’s focus on modern-day, glamour pinups.
Here are Katherine Heigl in a stunning 50’s Dior’s New Look, and Naomi Watts channeling her inner Varga Girl.In December 2008, Old Hollywood Glamour also featured an in-depth interview with contemporary burlesque performer Ava Garter, a platinum level Yummy Mummy with two children ages seven and three.
I felt like such an ignoramus, looking at the photos, and saying “That’s not Ava Gardner. What’s going on?”
In her interviewj with Garter, OHG asks about the Ava Gardner reference:
Burlesque artist Ava GarterAm I correct in assuming you chose your stage name as an homage to screen goddess Ava Gardner? Why her?
Absolutely true! Gosh, I have a million reasons, I will give you just a few. The most obvious is her sex appeal. Ava was a no apologies woman, and I admire that . In pictures she looked right into the camera. Straight at you, as if to ask you ” OK, so what are you gonna do about it?” She got what she wanted but it didn’t always make her happy. I know how this feels, men still are hard for me to understand too.
I’ll drink to that!! How about some Low Dose Champagne?
Enjoy Old Hollywood Glamour. I’m dying to dive into those links … this is virgin territory, so to speak. A
