Swing State Women Gallup Poll Proves Republicans Have American Women Running Scared

Abortion Rights Top Priority of Women Swing State Voters

There is a well established gender divide in American politics, with women tending to vote Democratic and men tending to vote Republican. Within that mix, married women tend to be real swing voters. In those 12 states considered crucial “swing” states in the 2012 election, a massive gender-based disparity in top issues of concern was established this week in a Gallup Poll.

These results are based on an Oct. 5-11 USA Today/Gallup poll among registered voters in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Wisconsin.

The survey was conducted prior to the second presidential debate held in Hempstead, N.Y., on Oct. 16 and at a time when Romney has been gaining in national polls.

American Women Are Running Scared

The reality of women embracing abortion rights as their top priority in these states, confirms that thinking women are running scared in America. Rush Limbaugh reduces these findings to a diatribe about American women wanting to have indiscriminate sex all day long, and then aborting as a form of birth control.

Reality is that American women understand that we have reason to be worried. The Republican War on Women has truly convinced us that we are not safe from transvaginal probes or personhood amendments that gives an hour old fertilized egg the same exact rights as a married woman with children and a loving husband, an advanced college and who serves as mayor or her town.

Republicans support the Blunt Amendment, putting not only the Catholic bishops in charge of women’s bodies in 1 in 6 American hospitals — that’s both patients and workers — but ANY employer who has a moral objection to women using birth control.

Mitt Romney DOES suffer from Romnesia, and there is no reason to believe that once elected the flip flopper won’t unleash the full forces of America’s social conservatives on American women. Gone in a Romney administration: abortion rights, contraception rights, federal protection for equal pay and countless other rights won by American women in the last 50 years.

President Obama Opens Wide Lead in New Pew Research Poll | Catholics Evenly Split Between Obama & Romney

Republican candidate Mitt Romney argued with great arrogance this week that President Obama’s supporters represent the 47% of Americans who pay no taxes. But a review of federal tax paperwork that doesn’t include Americans who filed no returns, shows without question that Republican states dominate the folk that Mitt Romney is talking about. Now maybe every Democrat in these states is on the dole, but that’s unlikely. What Republicans choose to ignore is that they represent some of the poorest folks in America. Read on at The Atlantic Where Are the 47% of Americans Who Pay No Income Taxes

Obama Increases Poll Leads

A new poll out today by Pew Research Center has President Obama leading Republican challenger Mitt Romney by 8 points nationally, 50 to 43 in a group of 2.424 registered voters.

It’s worth noting that President Obama holds a bigger September lead than the last three candidates to win the presidency, including Obama in 2008. Dialing back to 1988, only Bill Clinton in both 1992 and 1996 entered the fall season with a bigger advantage.

PEW research also looked at President Obama’s onging support among different religious groups. As expected, Black Protestant registered voters have almost universal support for the president. Religiously unaffiliated voters have increased slightly their support of the president from about 60% in Oct 2011 to 63-35% now.

In spite of tremendous pressure from Catholic bishops not to support the president’s policies, both white Catholic voters and white mainline protestant voters have increased their support from about 37% a year ago to nearly 50% today. As expected, the president’s support among white evangelical protestant registered voters is the lowest of all groups, hovering at about 20%. (cont. column 2)

Obama enjoys a staggering 43 point advantage in the measure “connects well with ordinary Americans”. In a massive disparity in perceived strengths between the two candidates, Obama outpaces Romney by 13 points of greater on these issues:

Takes consistent positions on issues; Willing to take unpopular stand; Good judgment in a crisis; honest and truthful; a strong leader; dealing with health care; dealing with Medicare; and representing your views on abortion.

Quote of the day: Scarborough’s lesson Salon

Joe Scarborough, the host of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” wrote an Op-Ed in Politico last night called “The Problem With Mitt,” where he sums it all up:

“And the lesson is clear: If we want to win the battle of ideas in the long term, we should be willing to face the fact that Mitt Romney is likely to lose — and should, given that he’s neither a true conservative nor a courageous moderate. He’s just an ambitious man. Nothing wrong with that, except when you want to be president. Great leaders combine ambition and ideas and conviction.”

A new Reuters poll shows President Obama widening his lead over Repubican candidate Mitt Romney. Thursday’s Reuters/Ipsos poll of likely voters shows Obama with a seven point lead. 48 percent of likely voters chose Obama with 41 percent choosing Romney. Among the 1,231 registered voters surveyed, Obama’s lead was 45 percent to Romney’s 39 percent.

Obama led Romney by wide margins in questions around tax policy, healthcare, Social Security, and the war on terrorism.

Voters were knowledgeable about events in Libya and Cairo.

Hillary Clinton Condemns Film

While Republican candidate Mitt Romney remains silent on the anti-Islam video, US Hillary Clinton has condemned it, calling the film “disgusting and reprehensible”. Clinton clarified her comments saying that America would never stop citizens from expressing their views, as is done in the anti-Muslim film causing protests throuout the Muslim world.

Many Americans have wondered how this film and the potential results of death and destruction it stimulates in the Arab world aren’t the equivalent of yelling ‘fire’ in a crowded theater. Writing for The Atlantic, Yale Law Professor Jack Balkin expls why our 1st Amendment protects the free speech of these haters.

Romney Rhetoric Condemned

Mr. Romney’s rhetoric on embassy attacks is a discredit to his campaign The Washington Post

At a news conference, Mr. Romney claimed that the administration had delivered “an apology for America’s values.” In fact, it had done no such thing: Religious tolerance, as much as freedom of speech, is a core American value. The movie that provoked the protests, which mocks the prophet Muhammad and portrays Muslims as immoral and violent, is a despicable piece of bigotry; it was striking that Mr. Romney had nothing to say about such hatred directed at a major religious faith.
