Interviewed by Jonathan Van Meter and styled by Tonne Goodman, Reese wears gowns from Narciso Rodriguez, Dior and Dolce & Gabbana to celebrate her currently wonderful life. Witherspoon was married on March 26 to talent manager Jim Toth, at a ‘simple elegant affair at her ranch in Ojai, California.’
America’s sweetheart actress did all of her own stunts in ‘Water for Elephants’ on both the horses and elephant. Writes Van Meter:
Although her scenes in the ring with the horses and the elephant are breathtaking, not least of all because you know that she is doing all of the stunts herself, and she looks fantastic in 1930s cut-on-the-bias evening gowns (and even committed to dyeing her hair platinum for the movie), it unfortunately feels like she’s holding back in some way. Perhaps it was hard to compete with the director’s overheated take on an already melodramatic story, in which terrible things happen to everyone, animals and humans alike. A feel-good movie this is not.
We would be irresponsible and fake to readers not to share the reality that PETA feels very strongly about the treatment of animals like elephants, bears and other animals in the Ringling Bros circus. This link will take you directly to their page on circuses.
We do not want to glamorize such an important issue, because Anne of Carversville loves elephants as much as bonobos and dolphins.
Updated 5/14/11: In fact, serious claims have arisen about the treatment of Tai — not during the filming of the movie — but in 2005 training.
Two horrific videos showing the alleged practices by Have Trunk Will Travel trainer Gary Johnson are circulating the Internet, with major coverage starting in the press. Read on: ‘Water for Elephants’ Elephant Tai’s Violent Training Videos.
