I’m on a creativity blast, rushing to get ready for our upcoming New Jersey shows this week: Temple Beth Sholom Holiday Marketplace in Cherry Hill on Wednesday November 13, and the Holiday Arts & Crafts Show At Wall Fire House in Manasquanon on Saturday November 16. We have a growing list of holiday shows, and you can always catch us at any of our permanent locations too.
My entire life I’ve wanted to do large collages. Having made countless design boards in my life, I know this is my artistic communications medium. It seemed like a natural to move to decoupage, collage placemats this week, along with other items for my expanding GlamTribale home collection.
The placemats will be focused on three best-selling themes: elephants, bright flowers and the Italian Riviera. They are one-of-a-kind 12”x18” mats that are decoupaged front and back using images from our coasters and art tiles. When I say “one of a kind” I mean that the exact combination of images and papers will always be changed in the next variation.
I’ve used three top coat layers of decoupage and two layers of eco-friendly varnish on the top of the mat, leaving it quite smooth and very tight. For clients who request it, we have a layer of film that can go over the mats, making them easy to wipe. My personal preference is to leave them looking more natural and no less easy to care for. The place mats will accept temperatures to 175-degrees F.
These charming elephants also want to hang on the wall as an art piece. How about installing four together in a frame with the goal of making it easy to remove the mats when desired. Is this functional art? Hmmm. The wheels are churning in my mind.
After printing out the collage on the vellum paper used to make the GlamTribale decoupage beads, it seemed like a natural to put it on a holiday tree ornament. The result was superb — yes, yes elephants on a glass ornament!! Today I must add some bead and charm decorations, and we are good to go.
The placemats will be $40 ea, 4/$125. I hope that you love them every bit as much as I do. By next year I expect to be making large wall collages that connect all the dots of my story and values, along with those of women worldwide. ~ Anne
To make shopping for our Elephant Bazaar products easier, I’ve added a link for elephants on the GlamTribale website.
