The fascinating PBS Earth Day feature on woolly mammoths coincides with the birth of a new GlamTribale woolly mammoth collection. While PBS discussed the questions raised by the possibility of using cloning technology to bring these beautiful behemoths back, GlamTribale is using woolly mammoth bones to breathe life into the ancient megaherbivore’s legacy— as well to help save elephant’s lives today.

PBS News Hour: Should science revive the woolly mammoth?

Woolly mammoth ivory is a sustainable alternative to elephant ivory, the use of which— along with habitat degradation and other human-caused environmental damage— is pushing our elephant friends towards the same fate as their extinct relatives. GlamTribale’s woolly mammoth and elephant collections are part of our continuing efforts to support conservation. In 2015, GlamTribale will create its own collection of woolly mammoth ivory jewelry for prestige locations.

Anne Enke and Alex Kachenko are very excited to unveil the new Glamtribale woolly mammoth collection, in which they use a unique kiln-firing technique to artistically incorporate woolly mammoth ivory in pottery and jewelry.

Anne Enke Is Thrilled To Come To Ocean City, NJ @ Stainton's

GlamTribale Opens At Stainton’s in Ocean City, NJ on Dec. 17 GlamTribale.org

I posted just now on GlamTribale.com the wonderful news that next Tuesday, December 17, we will be open for business at Stainton’s in Ocean City, NJ. I had four shops to choose from and ‘yes’, the windows are both a blessing and a logistical challenge. But I wanted the windows, because I’ve never forgotten the wonderful reception GlamTribale received in Mt. Airy, Pa. in our pop-up shop near Chestnut Hill. People had studied our windows, read our philanthropy message and entered the shop when it finally opened as friends on a mission of support. Translated — they bought a lot of jewelry.

Read on at GlamTribale about all the emotion concerning this wonderful news that we are opening in Ocean City next week — with an audience predisposed to love us, based on our recent experience there. More news coming!!! A formal announcement about Cape May, NJ is January news. You can be the first to know the location by logging on to this blog post.

By George! I Think She's Got It!!!!! Anne Takes Her Show On The Road

By George! I Think She’s got it!

Indeed, I feel like Eliza Doolittle today in this scene from ‘My Fair Lady’. We had a wonderful day at our Saturday PHAIR market at 23 and Arch. We will be there every weekend until Thanksgiving, no matter where else we’re going.

Being a fashion industry veteran, I never believed that one size fit all. So I’m doing the cha-cha one place and waltzing at another. What was so wonderful today at PHAIR — after I rearranged the booth yet again before returning to my loft to work like a crazy woman — was that every square foot of real estate produced sales.

We sold several items from our Omo Valley inspiration back wall.

And our new $10 6”square art tile is a hit. People continue to tell us that our coasters at $8 each 4/$25 are the most beautiful they’ve ever seen.

Yes, we sold elephants galore today. In fact, we are making such a splash with my beloved elephants and woolly mammoth bone jewelry, that First Friday October in Lancaster — where we are a shining light at Building Character — we will open Elephant Bazaar by GlamTribale (don’t hold me to this working name), paying tribute to these magnificent creatures who are under seige globally with a luxury market obsessed with wearing their ivory.

Take a cue from America’s First Lady Michelle Obama and wear GlamTribale woolly mammoth jewelry instead. Our first GlamTribale ambassador — a Google marketing executive in London — bought our lovely woolly mammoth pierced pearl earrings just last week.

Coming to PHAIR Saturday Oct. 24

This week I will be working on a new product that varnishes a rustic crate with three old-fashioned milk bottles before adding one of our matching 6” colorful ceramic fronts in photos that match our other products. I simply can’t resist filling them with flowers next week on the other side of our coaster stands.

With more woolly mammoth news, we sold several pieces from creations three days old.

GlamTribale To Help Launch Philadelphia Ballet Nutcracker Market Dec-6-8

We’re so pleased that GlamTribale is going to the Philadelphia Ballet in early December, helping to launch the first-ever Nutcracker Market Dec 7-8, 2013, with an opening event on Dec. 6. We’re one of 50 “carefully selected artists and craftspeople” who will gather at the Kimmel Center of Performing Arts Commonwealth Plaza in an event open to the general public, and not only ballet attendees.

To view out our current, updated weekly Fall 2013 schedule in and around Philadelphia, look here.

We’ll be showcasing GlamTribale gifts and jewelry along with a special collection of products created just for ballet lovers. Here’s a sampling. ~ Anne

Your AOK Foundation Health & Wellness Expo, Aug. 3, 2013 Raffle Gifts

X-posted on GlamTribale/Anne’s Blog

GlamTribale is happy to support Philadelphia’s Your AOK Foundation (see FB page) with several raffle gifts fresh off the design table. Your AOK is holding its first annual Health & Wellness Expo from 10am-2pm on Saturday Aug. 3 at the Dorothy Emanuel Recreation Center, 8500 Pickering Ave in Philadelphia.

Your AOK will be conducting bone density testing, blood pressure tests, and a host of other critically-needed services for the community.

Unfortunately, GlamTribale will not be hosting a table at the event, due to a screw-up in Anne reading her email under the new Google system, but we have donated one to another artisan who can’t afford it.

Elephants rules at GlamTribale, and we’re pleased to honor both the critically-endangered, matriarchal African elephant and her predecessor the woolly mammoth, extinct for 10,000 years. After the staggering success of our Africa and elephant themed coasters, which has even beat out our floral coasters, I’m introducing a 6” trivet that sells for $10.

The jewelry pieces will be added to our growing woolly mammoth beads collection, featuring beads made of bones 10-100,000 years old. Woolly mammoths precede the much-loved, endangered elephants in Africa and Asia. The center bead in the necklace is made from this New York Times article printed on vellum, then decoupaged on wood.

This new jewelry is amazingly light-weight and fully treated with eco-friendly, anti-tarnish varnish. EVERY metal bead at GlamTribale now receives this treatment.

The woolly mammoth earrings are $20 and the necklace $35. We WILL — I truly do promise — have them online soon. I am just running as fast as I can these days. Hopefully, Laura will be able to upload items next week. It hasn’t gone well having others input the GlamTribale jewelry — impossible as that sounds. And yes, it’s costly. We have retail shoppers unhappy that so many of the new products aren’t online.

Enjoy reading an excellent National Geographic article Woolly Mammoth Study Shows Complexity of Evolution and shop our GlamTribale woolly mammoth collection. ~ Anne
