Bethan Laura Wood's Rousseau Fruit Windows For Hermes UK Summer 2014

London designer Bethan Laura Wood was commissioned by French luxury brand Hermes to collaborate on its UK windows in London, Manchester and Dublin this summer. Called The Fruits of Labor and inspired by the work of favorite GlamTribale painter Henri Rousseau, Wood created sets of oversized fruits and vegetables that displayed the brand’s scarves and accessories. Each piece of produce used in the windows are visibly hand-painted in a nod to the Hermes tradition of craftsmanship and unique design. Enjoy more artistry by Bethan Laura Wood.

AOC Adopts An Anthem For GlamTribale: Marvin's 'What's Going On" By Playing For Change

What’s Going On from Playing For Change on Vimeo.

As I slowly re-enter the world of Anne of Carversville and GlamTribale with a reflective focus on the next version of myself and the content I want to focus on for the websites, the most splendid song came my way today via my FB friend Richard Bohn

On my own FB page, I shared it as a song for Ferguson. Listening to it again, I realize that it is an anthem for me, for AnneofCarversville and for GlamTribale. Marvin Gaye’s song “What’s Going On” is buried deep in my soul and I am thrilled to hear this version of it, a version that connects all of us.

Anne, the one-woman army behind AnneOfCarversville and GlamTribale, is taking time to reflect on life priorities and to honor the memory of her best friend, Robert Rothschild. The courage and grace with which he faced cancer is an inspiration. His legacy also lives on in GlamTribale’s mission of empowerment. We are now mainly focused on growing GlamTribale and nourishing our advocacy, while AnneOfCarversville may revert to being centered on personal, reflective writings.

“I’ve decided to seriously cut back my involvement in my seven-year website Anne of Carversville. I will continue to post, but there will be a much greater reflection on my personal stories and experiences. This was the original intention of Anne of Carversville — to speak about the intersection of brains, sexuality, women’s rights, activism and philanthropy.” - Anne

Louis Vuitton 2014: Never Ask For Directions, Just Be Where You Are

Louis Vuitton introduces another Spirit of Travel 2014 campaign, a trek to the South African bush. The campaign starring models Karen Elson and Edie Campbell “conjures the original spirit of travel for the next generation: the allure of the unknown, the thrill of exploration, the wonder of discovery.

Carine Roitfeld chooses Louis Vuitton’s iconic Monogram canvas, created by Georges Vuitton in 1896 as the fashion focus, accompanied by Louis Vuitton luggage.

Peter Lindbergh captures the magic of travel in this exquisite set of images that inspired the phrase: “Never ask for directions, just be where you are.”

Eniko Mihalik By Diego Uchitel Returns Anne To Vietnam & Reflections On The Heart Of Darkness

Anthropologie has always been one of my favorite stores. As a founder of the style fusion, global marketplace shopping vision, Anthropologie has always taken us to far away places. This season Anthropologie goes to Vietnam with Hungarian model Eniko Mihalik leading photographer Diego Uchitel on a stylish romp through this Asian paradise.

If Vietnam-inspired at home decor is your passion, check out the Jardin Des Plantes collection online at Anthropologie.

Although I’ve travelled to most parts of Asia, a stamp from Vietnam is not in my passport collection. The closest I came was dropping down out of the clouds on a United flight from Bangkok to Hong Kong. I reflected on the place of Vietnam in my consciousness from 10,000 feet in 2008, with an update in 2010.

This reflection in not light reading. You can find it in my blog — which is being reconstructed to bring all my serious writing to one place: Vietnam | Black Hawk Helicopters | September 11| Anne Looks Into the Heart of Darkness. ~ Anne

Brooklyn Artist Wangechi Mutu Confronts Women As Active Protagonists

Wangechi Mutu by Kathryn Parker AlmanasKenyan born Brooklyn artist Wangechi Mutu joins Lupita Nyong’o, who last night added a SAG Award for supporting actress in ‘12 Years a Slave’ to her blockbuster week, on Forbes’ recent 20 Young Power Women in Africa 2013.

i just stumbled into Wangechi Muti while researching more info on Hans Silvester’s recent Hermes 2014 spring campaign. Silvester’s splendid photographs of the Omo Valley people are a key inspiration for GlamTribale.

Mutu’s work is currently on view at the Brooklyn Museum in the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art’ until March 9, 2014 in an exhibition called ‘A Fantastic Journey’.

Born in Nairobi, Kenya, Mutu scrutinizes globalization by combining found materials, magazine cutouts, sculpture, and painted imagery. Sampling such diverse sources as African traditions, international politics, the fashion industry, pornography, and science fiction, her work explores gender, race, war, colonialism, global consumption, and the exoticization of the black female body. Mutu is best known for spectacular and provocative collages depicting female figures—part human, animal, plant, and machine—in fantastical landscapes that are simultaneously unnerving and alluring, defying easy categorization and identification. Bringing her interconnected ecosystems to life for this exhibition through sculptural installations and videos, Mutu encourages audiences to consider these mythical worlds as places for cultural, psychological, and socio-political exploration and transformation.

In a promotional video produced for her exhibition at the Nasher Museum, Mutu states “The power for me in this is to keep the figure−the story of the female in the center… to keep discussing and talking about women as active, as protagonists. Good, bad, whatever it is that they are, that they are part of the reason that we here.” In every act the “triumphant warrior female” of Ms. Mutu’s fantasia is shamelessly defiant and all the more delicious for it, writes Wall Street International Magazine.

‘The End Of Eating Everything’, directed and written by Wangechi Mutu is is enjoying a sold-out debut at Sundance this week. The eight-minute short “traces the journey of a flying, planetlike creature navigating a bleak skyscape. This sick soul is lost in a polluted atmosphere without grounding or roots, led by hunger toward its destruction.” The film trailer is posted in AOC Salon, along with an interview with the creators about consumption and the destruction of our planet.
