Meet Us At 100% Handcrafted March 15 At Robbinsville High School

GlamTribale joins our good friends Barb and George Thompson and over 100 more artisans and crafters for the eighth year RHS 100% Handcrafted cutting edge arts and crafts fair on Saturday, March 15, 2014 from 10am-3pm at Robbinsville High School in Robbinsville, New Jersey.

“This always anticipated juried event prides itself in hosting only the finest crafters in the area,” says Cindy Rosen, chairperson. Rosen expects attendance of 700 shoppers from several mid-Atlantic states.

RHS Raven Players100% Handcrafted benefits the RHS Raven Players theater students and the Raven Regiment band students. These programs are extracurricular and sponsored by parent groups Friends of the Raven Players and Raven Regiment Booster Club. This 100% Handcrafted event raised over $5000 last year! Vendor applications are voted on by several members at committee meetings.

Given our last minute application, we are so grateful to participate in 100% Handcrafted, lending our support to artistry in American youth. I’ve written before that my seventh grade art teacher moved me into a pilot project math class, telling me is was for my own because “you have no creativity.” I believed her for decades. ~ Anne

GlamTribale Now Open At Stainton's 810 Asbury Avenue In Ocean City, NJ

GlamTribale is now open at Stainton’s in Ocean City! You can’t miss us — with this lovely street view presence at 810 Asbury Ave in Ocean City, located between 8th and 9th Streets, a couple blocks from the ocean.Stainton’s is open 10 am-6pm daily, including New Year’s Day.

Stainton’s summer hours beginning Memorial Day and ending Labor Day are 10am to 9pm Monday to Saturday; 10am to 6pm on Sunday.

I adore this small space and especially the black and white space. One person’s white elephant is another person’s jewel box, and this is how I feel about our Stainton’s location. We opened on Dec. 16th and had a wonderful run up to Christmas. If I can just cover the rent in Jan-March, we’ll be happy because spring comes with a big wow at this Ocean City location. Summer should be blockbuster for us.

On today’s shopping list is finding two small stools for the desk in the window and a mirror. Chained to the desk will be our Hans Silvester book on the Omo Valley people and a spinner of charm and nature-inspired earrings under $20. Of course we need more signage in the space, but I can report that customers are totally engaged with our GlamTribale story, with a special emphasis on our ceramics and home products. In the coming weeks, I will be expanding our home collection at Stainton’s.

It was a mad dash effort just to open in December, but we made it! Next on our list is opening at The Marketplace at Teabury in Cape May. It should be a wonderful summer for GlamTribale with shops in three locations including our two shops at Building Character in Lancaster. ~ Anne

Anne's New Decoupage Collage Placemats Hit An Artistic High Note

I’m on a creativity blast, rushing to get ready for our upcoming New Jersey shows this week: Temple Beth Sholom Holiday Marketplace in Cherry Hill on Wednesday November 13, and the Holiday Arts & Crafts Show At Wall Fire House in Manasquanon on Saturday November 16. We have a growing list of holiday shows, and you can always catch us at any of our permanent locations too.

My entire life I’ve wanted to do large collages. Having made countless design boards in my life, I know this is my artistic communications medium. It seemed like a natural to move to decoupage, collage placemats this week, along with other items for my expanding GlamTribale home collection.

The placemats will be focused on three best-selling themes: elephants, bright flowers and the Italian Riviera. They are one-of-a-kind 12”x18” mats that are decoupaged front and back using images from our coasters and art tiles. When I say “one of a kind” I mean that the exact combination of images and papers will always be changed in the next variation.

I’ve used three top coat layers of decoupage and two layers of eco-friendly varnish on the top of the mat, leaving it quite smooth and very tight. For clients who request it, we have a layer of film that can go over the mats, making them easy to wipe. My personal preference is to leave them looking more natural and no less easy to care for. The place mats will accept temperatures to 175-degrees F.

These charming elephants also want to hang on the wall as an art piece. How about installing four together in a frame with the goal of making it easy to remove the mats when desired. Is this functional art? Hmmm. The wheels are churning in my mind.

After printing out the collage on the vellum paper used to make the GlamTribale decoupage beads, it seemed like a natural to put it on a holiday tree ornament. The result was superb — yes, yes elephants on a glass ornament!! Today I must add some bead and charm decorations, and we are good to go.

The placemats will be $40 ea, 4/$125. I hope that you love them every bit as much as I do. By next year I expect to be making large wall collages that connect all the dots of my story and values, along with those of women worldwide.  ~ Anne

To make shopping for our Elephant Bazaar products easier, I’ve added a link for elephants on the GlamTribale website.

Great Staff & Problem Solved At Jenkintown Festival of the Arts Sept 22, 2013

A BIG problem appeared when we arrived to set up shop in what was a great spot as promised by organizers of the Jenkintown Festival of the Arts. Our 10x10 tent would sit half on the sidewalk; half in the street. The festival staff was fantastic as I said ‘impossible’. Walking to the back wall with a curb in the middle of the booth was an insurance nightmare waiting to happen. Once it was clear that the tables would fit in the street, the organizers suggested moving the tent back onto the plaza entrance. In 5 minutes, we had twice the space and a wonderful spot with excellent traffic and sales. The day was a success, and we’ll be back next year. ~ Anne

Gap, PA 2013 Balloon and Fall Fest Was A Beautiful Event For GlamTribale

GlamTribale had a wonderful time at Sept. 20’s Balloon and Fall Fest in Gap, PA. Held at The Family Center of Gap at Houston Run, about 30 miles from Lancaster and our home at Building Character.

Friday weather was perfect and so was business. Many, many more local people should have come out for what was a magical liftoff about 6pm and very beautiful evening ceremony with about 8 balloons lighting up in unison several times. The night was absolutely gorgeous and a wonderful scene for the kids.

One of the biggest impresisons made on me was the wonderful integration of local Amish people into the day. They were out and about and having a marvelous time. Look at the final pictures of a woman ‘pilot’ in the balloon and Amish people surrounding her.

It seemed that some of the Amish people may have owned one or two of the balloons because they there on the site when we were packing up to go. The balloons often land on Amish farms about an hour after takeoff. One GlamTribale customer returned to tell me about her flight.

She was an African American woman who joined three other women for a first ever girls night out — big time. Her balloon landed on an Amish farm. Note that the car tracking the balloon drives ahead of the set down spot to get permission to land.

As she explained it, about 11 kids came running out of the house bringing cookies and fresh juice for their visitors. Joined by their parents, the ballooners were welcomed warmly as everyone on the farm pitched in to pack up the balloon.

Next year we will have GlamTribale at the Gap, PA Third Annual Balloon and Fall Fest for both days, benefitting the Salisbury Historical Society. And we hope more people like our most wonderful customers from New York come to Gap, making the event an even bigger success. ~ Anne
