THESE VOICES & MEMORIES LIVE IN HARMONY AT ANNE OF CARVERSVILLE & GLAMTRIBALE JEWELRY & GIFTS.
One day in 2012, Anne went looking for GlamTribale lava beads. In Google seconds, her entire life fell into place . . . the seeds of this journey are scattered all over AOC.
Lake Turkana; the Leakey family; Dan Eldon; the artist JR & 'Women Are Heroes'; Carl Jung; Kibera, Nairobi; Iowa & Kathy Eldon; elephants; power outtages in Paris; a dream in Tribeca. Everything came to rest that lava-searching day, when Anne first saw Hans Silvester's photos of Ethiopia's Omo Valley people.
Anne's greatest muse is Dan Eldon, the photojournalist stoned to death in Mogadishu, Somalia on July 12 1993.
In 2013, Anne discovered that her inexplicable crying spell at Paris' old Dapper Museum was within a 48 hr. window of Dan's death. She sat alone, with only African masks . . . and then the electricity went out.
The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust was founded in 1977 by Dr. Dame Daphne Sheldrick D.B.E. in honour of the memory of her late husband, famous naturalist and founding Warden of Tsave East National Park, David Leslie William Sheldrick MBE.

The goddesses were slayed metaphorically with the rise of patriarchy and religious monotheism. Today women worldwide are rising again.
Anne of Carversville has told women's stories 'from fashion to flogging' since 2007. Welcome home.
ANNE'S TRUE LOVE: THE KIBERA SCHOOL FOR GIRLS
HOW TWO BROKE STUDENTS OPENED A GIRLS' SCHOOL IN A KENYAN SLUM Meet Kennedy Odele & Jessica Posner Odele Fast Company
When Jessica Posner (now Jessica Posner Odede), an American college junior six days into her study-abroad term in Nairobi, met Kennedy Odede, a 23-year-old social activist and Kenyan, he was skeptical.
He’d watched Westerners come and go, staying long enough to snap photos of his home—the slum Kibera—and leer at the feces and rats lining the streets. "Slum tourism turns poverty into entertainment, something that can be momentarily experienced and then escaped from," he wrote in an op-ed for the New York Timesin 2010. "People think they’ve really "seen" something—and then go back to their lives and leave me, my family and my community right where we were before." What made Jessica so different?
"I insisted on moving into the slum," she says, something no other visitor had ever done. "I did not want to be an outsider—someone who worked in the slum during the day and went back to a comfortable homestay at night."
"We aimed to do something radical: take the poorest, brightest girls and give them a top-notch education, capping each class at 20 students," says Jessica .
In 2008, Anne woke up at 3am, grabbed her laptop and Googled Dan Eldon without knowing why. The reason was immediately clear when she read that Dan Eldon's original journals were at an art gallery in Tribeca, three blocks away. The show was closing the next day.
Valentino designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli designed their Spring 2016 collection, with a desire to fuse African and Italian fashion into a beautiful but also political statement. . . .
Many will criticize the duo for somehow celebrating the plight of African refugees. The designers respond in their own words:
“We probably feel that the greatest privilege in doing our work is that fashion can give a message,” said Chiuri. “We think every person coming here is an individual, and we can show that we can improve ourselves by understanding other cultures.”
“The message,” added Piccioli, “is tolerance. And the beauty that comes out of cross-cultural expression.” Read on.
"Some people have questioned our vision along the way, believing that in a place like Kibera, where so many children could not afford to attend school, it would be most worthwhile to build an average-quality school that could serve as many students as possible."
Anne discovered Kibera via JR's 2009 'Women Are Heroes' Project, where he flypapered the houses with Kibera faces to keep the rain out. Her #1 muse Dan Eldon was often in Kibera. In the case of one young girl, Dan drove his aging Land Rover Deziree throughout Africa, selling art-inspired t-shirts for her heart transplant. When the irrepressible, optimist returned with deep pockets, the girl was dead.
Dan needed Kickstarter! Oh Goddesses! If only Kickstarter existed when Dan Eldon lived. The proclaimed 'mayor of Mogadishu' would have broken the fundraising bank.

Lupita Nyong'o Steps Up To Save Africa's Elephants GlamTribale Blog
AOC loved Lupita before she won an Oscar. But to open an email from the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and read that the stellar woman Lupita was communing with their elephant babies — as evidenced in this magnificent photo — brought tears to our eyes.
In addition to joining WildAid on behalf of elephants, Lupita will be promoting women’s causes, acting and the arts in her native Kenya. The Star Wars actor also visited Amboseli National Park and filmed anti-ivory public service messages for international distribution in Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, China, Hong Kong, Thailand and the United States.
