Body | Beauty | Culture A small study in Italy has established that the physiological responses of people with anorexia and bulimia to virtual food is essentially the same as to real food.
After confirming these results on a larger sampling, researchers believe that they’ve come up with an important new tool in the diagnosis of eating disorders. Measuring the body’s physiological responses to stimuli is believed to be far more accurate than human reporting. In this case, a virtual food experience was as effective as having real foods, to determine emotional responses with physical manifestations like increased heart rate and incrased stress levels in eating disordered patients. via Science Daily
