RedTracker| Pope Benedict accepted today the resignation of a German bishop under investigation for sexual abuse. In what the NYTimes calls a ‘terse’ statement, the Vatican said that the pope had accepted the resignation of Bishop Walter Mixa of Augsburg, under a clause in canon law allowing for the dismissal of bishops considered “unfit” for service.
The bishop is also a military chaplain and had already admitted to slapping children as a priest. His resignation was presented two weeks ago.
Yesterday prosecutors in Ingolstadt, Bavaria region of Germany said they were looking into a complaint of sexual abuse by Bishop Mixa, of an under-age boy.
