Strategic Decisions Around Guantanamo Due by Nov. 16

HopeTracker| Bloomberg News reports that the US will decide by Nov. 16 whether to try Guantanamo detainees in military or civilian courts.

Speaking to reporters in Doha, Quatar this week, US Attorney General Eric Holder said that closing Guantanamo Bay, Cuba by President Obama’s Jan. 22 deadline will be “difficult”.

Much of the difficulty in closing Guantanamo is focused on 100 Yemini inmates. The US wants the inmates sent to Saudi Arabia for a rehabilitation program. The Saudis refuse to accept them, reports Bloomberg, while Yemen’s president wants them returned to their homeland. via Bloommberg News
