Senate Blocks Defunding Planned Parenthood, Healthcare Law
RedTracker| The Democratic-run US Senate defeated measures passed by the Republican-run House to ban spending government funds on the new healthcare law and for Planned Parenthood.
The House voted 241-185 to defund Planned Parenthood. The Senate rejected the measure 42-58, with five Republicans joining 53 Democrats in opposing it.
Republican Senators voting against the Planned Parenthood legislation in the Senate were Scott Brown of Massachusetts, Mark Kirk of Illinois, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, and Maine’s Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins.
On healthcare, the House voted to deny funding for President Obama’s healthcare changes 240-185. The Senate rejected the measure with 47 Republicans voting yes and 53 Democrats opposed.
