Sean Combs Urges Wyclef Jean to Run for Haitian Presidency

There’s no word yet on how much money was raised for Haiti in Friday night’s ‘SOS Save OurSelves — Help for Haiti’ telethon, organized by music industry star and businessman Sean Combs.

Combs made a big point of urging Wyclef Jean, who has been tireless in his efforts on behalf of Haiti, to run for president of the country, saying “You’ve seen him everywhere since the earthquake struck. I don’t think he’s slept at all. In the future, Wyclef should run for President of Haiti.” via Contact Music News

Proceeds of the concert are headed to four charitable organizations: Yele Haiti, CARE, Project Medishare and Children’s Safe Drinking water. See MSNBC coverage of concert.

A number of celebrities also manned phones to help accept donations during the Miami event, which was aired on BET, MTV, VH1 and Centric.

The NYTimes reports that Wyclef Jean says that he’s given more than $1 million to his Yele foundation, although he’s offered no documentation of this fact.  Yele has been under scrutiny for unfiled tax documents and gave the press a preview of the yet unfiled 2008 tax report, showing that the foundation raised $1.9 milion that year.
