GreenTracker| For decades, geologists have looked longingly at water droplets embedded in ancient salt crystals, with dreams of understanding what lies inside.
Birmingham professor Tim Lowenstein explains that researchers aren’t clear whether the organisms cultured inside the salt crystals are ancient material or modern-day contaminants. His team believes they have some answers.
“Not only did we find bacteria, we found several types of algae as well,” he (Lowenstein) said. “The algae actually may be the food on which the bacteria survive for tens of thousands of years.” via Science Daily
