Representing the Council of Elders, Jimmy Carter has written a stinging rebuke of many religious practices arguing that they represent a strong source of women’s oppression. Carter resigned as a member of the Southern Baptists church, known for their literal interpretation of the Bible, which mandates that women are subordinate always to their husbands’ wills.
