Plastiki Expedition 2009 Prepares To Set Sail Into Eastern Pacific Garbage Patch

GreenTracker| GreenUPGRADER reports on the The Plastiki Expedition 2009, an environmentally conscious project with an audacious goal: to sail 12,000 nautical miles across the Pacific Ocean from San Francisco to Sydney in a boat made entirely out of plastic bottles and recycled waste products.

De Rothschild and his crew of scientists will come face to face with the Eastern Pacific Garbage Patch, a floating man-made disaster twice the size of Texas, located between California and Hawaii with the intention of “sailing” through it, in an effort to draw public attention to the fact that plastic bottles don’t evaporate into thin air (my words, not his).
