Responding to more women gamers online, PassionFruitGames intends to invent a new genre online: the romance novel game. Among young people age 18, women over the age of 18 account for 33 percent of gamers, while boys under 17 only account for 18 percent.
Their first game, Tiger Eye: Curse of the Riddle Box, is based on New York Times bestselling author Marjorie M. Liu’s novel “Tiger Eye.” The story focuses on a psychic named Dela who frees the “7-foot-tall, insanely handsome” Hari from a 2,000-year-old riddle box. The team has been working closely with Liu on the script, setting and character design. via Sphere.com
The challenge for PassionFruit will be communicating the steaminess of romance novels without drifting into pornography.
