Overwhelming Majority of Americans Support Legalizing Medical Marijuana

HopeTracker| A new Pew Research Poll confirms that nearly three-quarters of Americans (73%) say they favor their state allowing the sale and use of marijuana for medical purposes if it is prescribed by a doctor, while 23% are opposed. The strong support transcends all political groups and is equally strong in both states that have currently revised laws and those who haven’t.

Americans express some concerns about locations of marijuana clinics and the possibilities for abuse, but the overwhelming message about medical marijuana is that people support its legalization and distribution.

While the majority of Americans still don’t favor its legalization, 41% support its legalization now, vs 35% in 2008 and 16% in about 1990. via Pew Research Center
