Oil Families Want to Start Up Deepwater Drilling | Rolling Stone Roasts the President's Handling of BP

HopeTracker| We haven’t read Rolling Stone’s in-depth what went wrong analysis of the Obama Administration’s handling of the BP oil spill so far, but the title The Spill, The Scandal and the President followed by the lead in: “the inside story of how Obama failed to crack down on the corruption of the Bush years — and let the world’s most dangerous oil company get away with murder” suggests that the article isn’t congratulatory on Obama and BP.

As the president is condemned on the one hand for inaction on the current oil spill, he’s also being condemned for not lifting the six-month moratorium on deepwater oil drilling “without knowing exactly what happened” to cause the oil spill.

President Barack Obama understands “that this has economic costs,” spokesman Robert Gibbs said. “But at the same time, without knowing exactly what happened, the president thought it would not be responsible to continue on a path that might cause — without knowing the cause of the previous accident — might cause something else to happen again.” via CNN
