RedTracker| In a pilot program, the Norwegian government offered free congtraception for one year to 3,500 young women 20 to 24, the age group with the highest abortion rates. Women in two cities received free contraception and two cities didn’t receive free contraception.
The number of young women using contraception was 93 percent, a standard rate in this age group throughout Norway. The number didn’t increase as a result of government-provided contraception. What did increase was the reliability of the contraception method used and the women’s not skipping taking their pills or using a more expensive initial cost IUD.
The results of the Norwegian study are that abortion rates were cut in half. via EMaxHealth
