Beyond the Veil| Pew Research reports that high majorities in nine Muslim countries believe that both girls and boys should be educated. Only in Nigeria do Muslims say it is more important to educate boys (29%) than girls (2%), with 68% saying both should be educated equally.
Turkey scored the highest with 96% saying both genders should be educated equally, followed by Indonesia and Israel at 93%. Perhaps the greatest surprise is Jordan among the countries surveyed: Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine terr, Turkey, Israel, Indonesia, Pakistan, and Nigeria.
In Jordan, 15% said it’s more important to educate girls vs 19% boys and 65% both equally. Eqypt also scored high for educating girls as a priority with 12% vs 16% boys. Read on at Pew Research
