Sorry for being late on this post. New legalities are complicating the caning of Kartika Sari Dewi Shukarno in Malaysia. Kari was on her way to jail earlier this week, when she was turned around and sent home, with the announcement that her caning would be carried out after Ramadan.
The Malaysian Insider reports that — just as in the Lubna Ahmed Hussein case, the legalities of the punishment are being evaluated against sharia law (spelled syariah in this article). While I digest, here’s an update on the story:
