Lucy Liu Directs Her Segment of 'Half the Sky' in India

Beyond the Veil| In a big-time Hollywood project, Lucy Liu was in Mumbai — supposedly with Angelina Jolie — this week directing her segment of the film ‘Half the Sky: The Six Stories’ based on ‘Half the Sky: Turning Oppression Into Opportunity for Women Worldwide’. The book is an Amazon best-seller written by Pulitzer award-winning Nicholas D Kristof and Sheryl Wu Dunn that chronicles real-life stories of women in Asia and Africa.

Six American actresses — Meryl Streep, Angelina Jolie, Lucy Liu, Anne Hathaway, Marisa Tomei and Scarlett Johannson — are directing the real-life stories, inspired by women in the book. The film is being made by  US-based producers in conjunction with Harish Amin of Speaking Tree Productions in India.

It’s our understanding that the film will be made in regional dialects and produced with subtitles for English audiences. ‘Half the Sky’ now maintains a robust website dedicated to igniting people around the world on behalf of each other. Anne
