Kagan Confirmed | NYC Femmes Trio Sits on U.S. Supreme Court

RedTracker| Elena Kagan was confirmed Thursday afternoon, Aug. 5, 2010 as the 112th justice to the Supreme Court. On a 63-37 vote, Kagan, 50, joins Sonia Sotomayor and Ruth Ginsberg to put three New York City women on the Supreme Court map.

One Democratic senator Ben Nelson of Nebraska voted against confirming Kagan. Five Republican senators voted for her.

In a Washington Post background reminder, in the late 1990s then President Bill Clinton nominated Elena Kagan for a set on the U.S. Court of Appeals in the D.C. Circuit. Republicans who lamented Kagan’s lack of judicial experience ignored the fact that they refused to bring her nomination for a vote before Clinton’s presidency expired.
