Indonesian Villagers Unaware of Laws Protecting Orangutans
GreenTracker| A study on orangutans facing extinction in Indonesia revealed that a quarter of villagers who lived side-by-side with orangutans didn’t know that it was illegal under Indonesian law to kill them, and five percent admitted to killing 1000 orangutans last year. Just over half the killings were reported for food, with 10 percent each for self-defence, crop protection and unspecified reasons. (fuzzy math) via Science Daily
