Half of US Kids Receive Food Stamps Sometime During Childhood

HopeTracker| In what is an astonishing piece of news about life in America, researchers have analyzed 30 years of national data and concluded that nearly half of all US children and 90 percent of black kids will be on food stamps at some point during their childhood, until age 20.

The study’s lead author Mark Rank, a sociologist at Washington University in St. Louis, is concerned that the recession will significantly increase the need for food stamp assistance among children. Only two racial groups were analyzed, whites and blacks. Thirty-seven percent of all white children will receive some kind of food stamp assistance. via Huffington Post
