Haiti Update | US Embassy Mobbed

HopeTracker| With thousands of desperate Haitians trying to get away from the earthquake’s devastation, the US embassy is a prime destination for homeless refugees. Increasingly concerned that someone will get hurt, US ambassador Kenneth Merton got on Haitian radio to explain that while America is providing unprecedented amounts of aid and assistance, the US embassy is only for American citizens.

Ambassador Merto has used newspapers, radio and loudspeekers to communicate the message to crowds of thousands lining up outside the US embassy.

A non-American relative of an American citizen’s child may be granted a visa to accompany the child to the US, but Haitians in dire straits after the quake – even those with family in the US – won’t. via Christian Science Monitor
