Major league baseball is particularly aggressive about repealing the new law The MLB Players Association released a statement on Friday calling for the Arizona law to be repealed or modified. The law “could have a negative impact on hundreds of Major League players who are citizens of countries other than the United States,” union executive director Michael Weiner said in a statement. via TheHill.com
The Washington Post writes that although no Republican has expressed any interest in supporting the immigration reform package being supported by Democrats, the proposals have moved much closer to a 2007 Republican vision of immigration reform.
A centerpiece of the proposal is to hold employers responsible for hiring legal US residents and citizens and to require every American to get a new social security card with a fingerprint.
