Body Politics| Anne here. We’re processing today’s Daily Mail read Land of the living dolls: Feminism has spawned a promiscuous generation who believe their bodies are the only passport to success.

The article blames second wave feminists for this ungodly state of affairs, asserting that we demanded that women should be released from conventional morality around sex, which had confined them to idealised chastity on the one hand or contemptible promiscuity on the other.

Personally, I blame third-wave feminists, who prioritized ‘owning’ the concept of being a slut girl above all others, in the same way that blacks sought to own the term ‘nigger’. Believers argue the terms loses power when used within the group. I never bought into either platform. Degradation is degradation.

While we’re all blaming each other, an intelligent commentator asks “What about the patriarchy? Do men have any involvement in today’s ‘slut girl’ environment? Of course they do. As confrontational as the article is — via the established style of the Daily Mail, it raises good questions. I’ll be back with my ‘take’ on how much I’m to blame for this often degrading situation for women.
