Copenhagen Roundup Dec. 12, 2009

Copenhagen demonstrations Dec. 12, 2009As many as 700 people are believed to have been arrested by Copenhagen’s riot police, as authorities used “ketting” tactics to control a crowd that organisers estimated at 100,000 protesters. The Danish police have estimated the crowd at 30,000 and have deported some protesters on the spot.

In an interesting twist on the ongoing Anne of Carversville burqa discussion, activists were arrested not only because of stone-throwing, but also for wearing masks on their faces, which is illegal under Danish law.
