Controversial Cross Stolen In Mojave Desert

HopeTracker| The seven-foot-tall Latin cross at the center of a recent Supreme Court ruling has disappeared from the Mojave Desert. A former Park Service employee had sued to remove the cross on the ground, arguing that its presence in a federal preserve violated the separation of church and state provisions of the Constitution.

The Supreme Court returned the case to the lower court, while saying that the cross was really a spiritual symbol in this case — a recognition of death and sacrifice by the veterans of WWI.

The cross was covered since 2001 and has not disappeared entirely. via NYTimes
