Confusion Surrounds Facts of Terry Jones Book-Burning Plans

HopeTracker| The Rev. Terry Jones says that he is suspending his intention to burn Korans on Sat. Sept. 11. Contrary to the Jones claims, imam Muhammad Musri said that he brokered no deal regarding a decision to move the proposed Islamic center at New York’s ground zero in exchange for calling off the event.

Imam Muhammad Musri said Jones may have hatched the story about the Islamic center moving to “give himself a reason to call this off.”

Jones “was trying to save face,” Musri said Thursday night on CNN’s “AC360.” via CNN

Rev. Terry Jones, who earlier said he was calling off the burnings that have been condemned worldwide, now says he’s reconsidering.Reports emerged yesterday out of Europe that Jones has a history of distorting facts.

Even Defense Secretary Robert Gates on Thursday called the Gainsville chuch to strongly urge that the Koran not be burned. President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have also condemned the proposed act, warning of deadly repercussions worldwide.

“You could have serious violence in places like Pakistan or Afghanistan” as a result of the burning, Obama said on ABC’s “Good Morning America.” “This could increase the recruitment of individuals who’d be willing to blow themselves up in American cities, or European cities.” via CNN

Whether Terry Jones will actually travel to New York tomorrow to meet with the religious leader behind the planned Islamic center, Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, about a new location is also being questioned.

The imam told CNN’s Soledad O’Brien on “Larry King Live” that “had I known [the controversy] would happen, we certainly would never have done this.”

Donald Trump Offers To Buy Building

Also on Thursday, real estate developer Donald Trump offered to buy the building for 25 percent more than the current owners paid for it.
