RedTracker| New mothers may feel as if they’re losing their minds, but in fact, they’re getting smarter. Once again magnetic resonance imaging is disproving what society believes to be reality.
The brains of new mothers don’t turn into hormonal mush but grow more robust in size and with more dendrites, based on a small study of 19 new mothers at Yale-New Haven Hospital, led by neuroscientist Pilyoung Kim, PhD, now with the National Institute of Mental Health.
Researchers will follow up with a much larger sampling. Even more important and totally understandable, based on our knowledge of new events and novelty in growing healthier brains, moms who were enthusiastic about motherhood, celebrating their babies, grew even more brain matter. via Science Daily
