BP Admits Ignoring Signal of 'Very Large Abnormality' in Well

BP engineers plan to try a ‘top kill’ Wednesday, using drilling mud to plug the gushing well. GreenTracker| BP has told congressional investigators that their decision to continue working on an oil well in the Gulf of Mexico, ignoring a test that signalled something was very wrong, may have been a “fundamental mistake”.

BP acknowledges that its contractor Deepwater Horizon ignored the warning signal of a “very large abnormality” in the well and continued working. Although the Deepwater Horizon crew was in charge of the well, BP managers were onsite.

The rig exploded about two hours later, according to the WSJ.
