Bacteria Breakthrough Expedite Bio-Platic Production from Plant Sugars
GreenTracker| Juicy Couture’s eco-friendly sunglasses are bio-plastic, made from castor plant beans, as well as bamboo. Cool. The problem with bio-plastic has been their supply and inefficient methods for converting sugars into sunglasses and other products.
Eureka! Researcher Jean-Paul Meijnen has ‘trained’ bacteria to convert all the main sugars in vegetable, fruit and garden waste efficiently into high-quality environmentally friendly products such as bioplastics. Note that the current research is focused on agricultural bio-wastes and not the at-home compost pot. To understand the process, read on at Science Daily.
