An Aroused NY Philharmonic Debuts in UAE

The New York Philharmonic’s performance at the Emirates Palace hotel kicked off the Abu Dhabi Classics concert season yesterday. Ryan Carter The NationalArtTracker| The New York Philharmonic made its Abu Dhabi debut last night, playing to a sold-out crowd and receiving a six-minute standing ovation.

Appearing on the first night of the Abu Dhabi Classics season, the concert included Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No 4 in G major, with the soloist Emanuel Ax. The second half saw the full ensemble delve into Mahler’s Symphony No 1 in D major, often called the Titan.

The tour has functioned as something of a manifesto: in contrast to the more pensive, purist style of his predecessor, Lorin Maazel, (new conducto Alan)rGilbert is already proving a dynamic force. via The National Newspaper
