3 Years Later, 10 Trucks with Clothes & Shoes Headed for Gaza

Love|Peace Perhaps in the spirit of the Passover, Israel will allow a shipment of clothes and shoes to be delivered to Palestinians in the Gaza strip for the first time in their three-year-old tight blockade of Gaza. 10 truckloads will be arriving on Thursday.

Israel prohibits shipments of cement and steel to Gaza out of concerns that Hamas will use them for military purpose. Besides clothes and shoes which presumably could be used by the 1.5 million people in Gaza for terrorist purposes, children’s crayons and books are also banned on military grounds.

Smugglers have been bringing in expensive consumer goods via a tunnel from Egypt. The tunnels are frequently bombed by the’ Israeli air forces since Israel’s offensive against Hamas 14 months ago in which some 1,400 Palestinians and 13 Israelis were killed.’ via Washington Post

Work should be completed on the underground wall that Egypt is building along its boundary with Israel by year’s end. Smugglers say they already have tunnels that are deeper. via Haaretz
