Dominique Strauss-Kahn Case On Verge of Collapse

Strauss-Kahn Case Seen As in Jeopardy NYTimes

Dominique Strauss-Kahn will be released on his own recognizance later this am. Dominique Strauss-Kahn arrived at Manhattan Criminal Court for his arraignment in New York on June 6.Dominique Strauss-Kahn will appear in New York State Supreme Court in Manhattan at 11:30 EDT where he will be released ‘on his own recognizance’ with $1 million in cash and a $5 million bond returned to the French politician.

DSK will be free to travel within the US with the next court appearance set for July 18. It’s possible that charges will be dropped before that date.

In a dramatic turnabout, the New York prosecutors office has uncovered significantly damaging evidence about the credibility of the witness. There is no disputing the facts that Strauss-Kahn and the housekeeper had a sexual encounter. The assertion by the maid that the sex wasn’t consensual are now in serious doubt, with the NYT calling the case ‘close to collapse’.

Among the discoveries, one of the officials said, are issues involving the asylum application of the 32-year-old housekeeper, who is Guinean, and possible links to people involved in criminal activities, including drug dealing and money laundering.

Kenneth P. Thompson, the maid’s attorney, did not offer a direct rebuttal to the allegations in an email message.

An official dealing with the case called it “a mess, a mess on both sides.”

New York prosecutors — not the DSK defense team writes the NYT — uncovered key new information that undermines the credibility of the accuser.

Phone Call About Benefits of Pursuing Case Against DSK

The day after the incident, investigators report that the woman had a phone call with a man arrested on charges of possessing 400 pounds of marijuana. The call was recorded and the woman discussed the possible benefits of pursuing charges against DSK.

$100,000 in Deposits to Bank Account

He is among a number of individuals who made multiple cash deposits, totaling around $100,000, into the woman’s bank account over the last two years. The deposits were made in Arizona, Georgia, New York and Pennsylvania.

The maid admits paying hundreds of dollars every month in charges to five phone companies, after insisting that she only had one phone. She denies knowing anything about deposits into her bank accounts except that they were made by her fiancé and his friends.

Irregularities in US Asylum Application

In addition, one of the officials said, she told investigators that her application for asylum included mention of a previous rape, but there was no such account in the application. She also told them that she had been subjected to genital mutilation, but her account to the investigators differed from what was contained in the asylum application.

Mr. Strauss-Kahn’s lawyers, Benjamin Brafman and William W. Taylor III, have challenged the women’s credibility as early as May 25, writing that they had uncovered information that would “gravely undermine the credibility” of the accuser.

In a perfectly-timed weekend burst of long-holiday reading, sex columnist Dan Savage and Mark Oppenheimer, who writes the ‘Beliefs’ column for , talk turkey on America’s obsession with monogamy and the high rates of divorce that are created over infidelity.

Paternity Woops!

Linda Evangelista leaves Manhattan Family Court on Thursday June 30Salma Hayek’s hubby fathered Linda Evangelista’s son NYPost

It’s official. Billionaire Frenchman Francois-Henri Pinault is the father of Linda Evangelista’s four-year-son. The supermodel left Manhattan Family Court today without any movement in her efforts to secure a support arrangement for her son.

Evangelista has remained generally silent about the paternity issue but previoiusly said the father is a New York architect in an attempt to protect Pinault, who is married to Salma Hayek.

Evangelista and Pinault’s child was conceived in early 2006, when Pinault’s romance with Hayek was in turbulent waters. They reconciled and were married in 2009.
