Obesity Impacts Female Education Levels
Heavy in School, Burdened for Life NYTimes
America’s obesity debate around the young tends to focus on health consequences and fat bias, especially towards women. Overweight young women face another set of consequences related to education. After tracking more than 10,000 people who graduated from Wisconsin high schools in 1957, researchers have concluded that decreased education — and not only social perceptions or bias — dramatically affect the lifetime achievements of females.
The economic harm to overweight women is more than a series of personal troubles; it may contribute to the rising disparities between rich and poor, and it is a drain on the human capital and economic productivity of our nation.

Planned Parenthood Files Suit Over Birth Control NBC Montana
Montana| Planned Parenthood of Montana is suing the state insisting that taxpayers pay for birth control through Montana’s low-income insurance program.
“By saying that based on your gender and based on the reason you are using a drug you may or may not be denied access to birth control,” says Planned Parenthood director of public affairs Stacey Anderson.
“If you look at the cost of a year’s supply of birth control, it is $300 to $400 on average. You look at the cost of an unplanned pregnancy, which CHIP and Healthy Montana Kids does cover, it’s anywhere from $12,000 to $14,000 per birth,” says Anderson.
Montana disagrees, saying the state doesn’t have to provide contraception coverage. Montana does allow residents who fall below the federal poverty line and who qualify for federal medicaid to receive contraception.

Viagra: The Thrill That Was NYTimes
Last year the total number of prescriptions for so-called ED drugs declined by 5 percent in the United States. Sales had slowed to a lethargic 1 percent annually the previous four years, according to IMS Health, a heath-care data and consulting firm. (Viagra prescriptions were off 7 percent; those for Levitra plummeted 18 percent.)
The drop seems all the more significant given that the population is aging, so there are surely more men who potentially need the drug.

1% of Taypayer Agricultural Subsidies Support Fruits & Vegetable Farmers
Agricultural Policy Should Fuel Health, Not Epidemics! Huff Po
The statistics are even worse when we look at the billions of dollars the USDA spends in agricultural subsidies each year. Data shows that about 63 percent of agricultural subsidies support the meat and dairy industries, while fruits and vegetables receive less than 1 percent! Furthermore, the top beneficiaries of these subsidies are wealthy agribusinesses, while smaller more sustainable farms are pushed out of business.

Great post. It's wonderful to see curvy women being championed as the beautiful feminine creatures that they are. I'm from the UK but I purposefully bought the Vogue Italia edition to show my support!
