14,000 "Trigger Pullers" on Their Way to Afghanistan; Support Forces Become Subcontractors

In a major attempt to counteract the resurgence of the Taliban, the US military will pull out support troops, replacing them with subcontractors, and then send in the guns.

This scenario could be the optimal one for an administration (and US military) committed to staying in Afghanistan but facing two realities: 1. the current strategy isn’t working; and 2. public support for the war is waning.

According to a CNN poll, 57% of Americans oppose the war, up from 46% at the end of last year. via LATimes
