Resolve of West Bank Settlers May Be Tempered

VENERATION Jewish settlers praying over Joseph’s Tomb, a tiny stone compound in the heart of the Palestinian city of Nablus. One must read carefully but there’s “soft” news buried in yesterday’s NYTimes article about West Bank settlers.

Holding a belief that history is best understood as a relentless attack against the Jews, the settlers are also increasingly divided, leaderless and “increasingly mystical”.  These beliefs suggest that when confronted, the settlers will protest aggressively being removed from “their” land.

When interviewed, a great many settlers told the NYTimes that when the bulldozers arrive, they are finished. They love Israel and the Israeli army to much to fight the inevitable.

This is an in-depth NYTimes piece. Lots to read. Anne
