WH Bioethicist Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel Has Long Record Against Euthanasia

Dr. Ezekiel J. Emanuel, brother of Rahm Emanuel, White House Chief of Staff, is center stage in the health care reform debate, as the White House’s bioethicist health care adviser.

The NYTimes writes that the charges against Emanual — including Sarah Palin’s — are piecemeal attempts to distort the bioethicist’s long, public record of writing that defends life at all ages.

Given Dr. Emanuel’s well-publicized repudiations of doctor-assisted suicide and voluntary euthanasia, and his calls for a national health insurance voucher system that would eventually eliminate Medicare, Medicaid and employer-provided insurance — nonstarters at the White House — Dr. Emanuel says he is perplexed by depictions of him as a socialist euthanasia proponent.
