Femen, SlutWalks, Lysistrata | Body Politics Is On the Move

This reference on Slutwalks is now our top read, after yesterday’s march in London. We are adding links to all of Anne’s articles on SlutWalks and women as ‘sluts’ that comprise her recent writings.

Femen, SlutWalks, Lysistrata | Body Politics Is On the Move AOC Body|Beauty|Culture

Over 2000 people turned out in Boston over the weekend, and SlutWalk London has more than 3,500 people ready to walk in Trafalgar Square on June 4, writes the BBC just now.

What we learned in Egypt this spring is that small matches start big bonfires.

The Republican War on Women is so severe in its scope, that women must push back or loose our rights in an inconceivable powerplay by Conservative men. The same Conservatives who demand that the federal government get off their backs seek to overturn women’s sexual rights in America.

The question is whether Femen, SlutWalks and all the other women’s rights groups are ready to march together internationally putting gender above national politics.

Femen | ‘Topless Fighters’

Meet Femen, a small group of ‘Topless Fighters’ who are fighting sex tourism and prostitution in Ukraine as members of Femen.

Little woman with red hair Anna Hutsol is the head of Femen. The 26-year-old economist sits in front of her laptop, directing her topless fighters with the help of two mobile phones.

While Femen’s focus is body politics, they also seek democracy — which is losing ground in the Ukraine. Femen’s half-naked activists warned against the “Rape of Democracy” storming the polling station where presidential candidate Viktor Yanukovich was casting his vote last year.

Thousands of women took part in a SlutWalk in London today, insisting that women don’t cause their own rapes because of how they dress. Mostly women, the protesters were joined by a few men, dressed in everyday clothes. Anne will not be wearing a black lace bra in her SlutWalk but she likes this message on her back. On the front: ‘No Virginity Tests for Any Woman.’

Speaking of Sluts

The reminder that ALL women are sluts in the eyes of the world’s men got at least two boosts in the past week.  One big; one small but closer to home. (Note, one of my male readers who considers himself a pro-woman guy took issue with this sentence. )

New sentence: The reminder that ALL women are sluts in the eyes of vast numbers of the world’s cultures and in almost all its major religions got at least two boosts in the past week.

1) Ed Schultz apologized last night on MSNBC for calling Laura Ingraham a ‘right-wing slut’. He has been suspended without pay for a week.

2) My second aha moment in the past week came last Friday when TIME broke their cover story on ‘bad boys’. The title was ‘Sex. Lies. Arrogance. What Makes Powerful Men Act Like Pigs’. A colleague who will remain nameless commented:

I’m not defending the pigs, but also: what makes women act like sluts? Part of it could be this power & fame its self. What is lacking more and more these days is integrity, on both part of the sex’s.

Vanity of vanities,
all is vanity.

Without whitewashing women as never being arrogant, self-absorbed or out for themselves, I have pushed back hard this week on the assertion that women behave just like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Dominique Strauss-Kahn when we are given power.

 USC Guide to Sluts

USC Frat Boy Launches ‘Gullet Report’ for Expert Cocksman Getting Quality Pie AOC Sensually Yours

There are days when smart women just shouldn’t get up in the morning. I’m waiting for Phyllis Schlafly’s new diatribe against American feminists to hit Amazon on March 15. Schlafly’s view of women like me is:

I submit to you that the feminist movement is the most dangerous, destructive force in our society today. […] My analysis is that the gays are about 5% of the attack on marriage in this country, and the feminists are about 95%. […] I’m talking about drugs, sex, illegitimacy, drop outs, poor grades, run away, suicide, you name it, every social ill comes out of the fatherless home. ~Phyllis Schlafly

After all, we ladies should just suck it in and understand that boys will be boys. Schlafly refuses to hold men responsible for any ills in American society. In fact, smart women have totally emasculated men in her playbook.

A degrading email — allegedly from a Kappa Sigma frat boy at USC — supports my argument that American men aren’t dead doormats yet.  What’s tough for a woman like myself is that as an ardent feminist, I never fought against men, even though I am blamed for it.

The New Testament doesn’t speak of women all that much differently than this email.  That’s just the way it is for women in this world, and I’m exhausted with fighting the battle for recognition of women’s worth in a religious, political and social culture — including fashion — that is more misogynist than I ever wanted to believe as a starry-eyed young woman.

F***ING Sluts at Yale

Yale University has suspended all activities of the university’s chapter of elite Delta Kappa Epsilon for five years. Yale College Dean Mary Miller announced the suspension on Monday, saying that a disciplinary body at the college imposed the suspension as a result of actions during pledge week in the Fall of 2010.

Besides no recruitment of DKE chapter members at Yale, the sanctions also ‘prevent it from communicating with Yale students by means of Yale bulleting boards or Yale email, and severely limit its use of the Yale name in connection with the DKE organization.’

Individual punishments were meted out as well.

Delta Kappa Epsilon has operated at Yale since 1844 and is “the only fraternity at Yale which has never gone inactive,” according to its website. The chapter’s illustrious roster of former members includes presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush.

During pledge week Yale’s DKE candidates walked through the school yard to the Yale Women’s Center chanting:

‘No means yes, yes means anal. Fucking sluts. My name is Jack, I’m a necrophiliac, I fuck dead women and fill them with my semen.’

During pledging season of the 2008 fall semester, the Zeta Psi chapter at Yale photographed their pledges posing in front of the Yale Women’s Center, holding a sign that read “WE LOVE YALE SLUTS.” Perhaps a competition was building to see which group of frat boys could out gross the other.

Men’s Need to Control Women’s Bodies Is Nearly Universal

Controlling Women’s Bodies Is a Fight to the Finish AOC Sexual Politics

Behind this dark shade of women’s lives, there is a small window of hope for women. When a Sudanese journalist acknowledges the beauty and normalcy of women’s nakedness and sensuality, and I read his words in my Manhattan apartment, this is a new connection.

This ‘brand positioning’ is the DNA of Anne of Carversville. I am also committed to the unleashing of the full power of Smart Sensuality women and the men who stand with us.

There are many men who quality as Smart Sensuality men.

In all honesty, enlightened men may actually help lead women out of this valley of tears — if an exit is at all possible.

Science shows us the degree to which women must cover up their inner most sense of self, via our brain scans.

We women do plenty of our own restricting, binding, and covering — in search for purity and godly righteousness. Who can call us ‘bad girls’ if there is nothing to see?

If I’ve covered every element of myself, so that I can’t even put food in my mouth, I dare you to call me a whore. This is just another variation of Lubna’s defiance.

Why Must We Be Sluts?

Women As Muses: What Is Our Place in the Modern World? Or Are We Just ‘Slut Girls’ Today? AOC Sensually Yours

Hello from Anne. As you know by now, I have come to vigorously support the SlutWalk movement. This article was written when I continued to push back about ‘owning’ the word slut, although I understand the logic of the younger women. We must remember that it was a police officer in Toronto who said that if women didn’t want to be raped, they shouldn’t dress like sluts.

My view is that if SlutWalks can galvanize women and men globally around the idea of women’s rights — which are going backwards in America, Sudan, maybe even Egypt — our bright spot from a few months ago — then I say ‘live with it, Anne’.
