Brangelina Offer More Support to SOS Children's Orphanages

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have further cemented their relationship with SOS Children’s Orphanages, donating $333,000 to the organization, and earmarking $100,000 for two orphanages in Florida and Illinois.

Angelina said of the generous gift: “We have seen firsthand the remarkable job SOS does to raise orphaned and abandoned children and keep families together. No one ‘ages out’ of an SOS Village: vocational training, advanced education, living assistance and moral support are there forever.” via Sidney Morning Herald

We wrote earlier in Dec. about the Pitt-Jolie relationship with SOS Children’s Orphanages. Brangelina inspires us all. According to The Hollywood Reporter - which received a copy of the 2008 tax return for the charity - the Jolie-Pitt Foundation banked $US13 million in 2008 and gave half back to their philanthropy projects.

Since writing that post, I’ve written about a trend in orphanages which involves supporting a home for the kids. Both Brangelina and Madonna are aware of these trends in philanthropy.

Brad Pitt Makes Family & Philanthropy the Cornerstone of His Angelina Alliance

The essence of this early August interview with Brad Pitt by London Times writer Martyn Palmer zeroes in on the rowdy Oklahoma kid makes good side of Pitt.

We saw this down-home bad boy side of Pitt this week, responding to questions about marrying partner Angelina Jolie and becoming mayor of New Orleans, in Ann Curry’s TV interview with Pitt, and in the ‘Inglorious Basterd’s’ Parade Magazine reflections on his family life and personal values.

Brad Pitt says he would never be elected mayor of New Orleans“I’m running on the gay marriage, no religion, legalization and taxation of marijuana platform,” Pitt jokingly told Curry. “I don’t have a chance.” (via NY Daily News)

Clearly Brad Pitt has come a long way from his Missouri, Southern Baptist family days where mother Jane was a high-school counsellor and his father William ran a truck company.

Yet, Pitt seems intent on being a regular guy, evolving out of his single-guy, bad boy days into an exemplary father who says he stopped smoking dope for his kids. Brad continues to enjoy ‘the bottle’, a source of endless Internet speculation on his forever-crashing relationship with Angelina Jolie.

Brad Pitt being the perfect ‘big daddy’ via LA Times ‘The Dish Rag’This summer’s spate of new interviews should put to rest the idea that a Branjelina household meltdown is coming any moment. The headlines sell magazines and Intenet clicks, feeding a mob frenzy around the couple. It’s impossible to know how much is grounded in any truth.

Brad Pitt's NBC Interview with Anne Curry 8-13-09

NBC’s Ann Curry interviews Brad Pitt on the fourth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina about his foundation Make It Right, committed to building 150 of the 4,000 destroyed 9th Ward homes homes by 2010.

Pitt, 45, acknowledges the movement to run him for mayor, then says “It’s not what I do best.” The actor also picks up the theme of his Parade magazine interview, in our next entry, saying: “I’m running on the gay marriage, no religion, legalization and taxation of marijuana platform. I don’t have a chance.”

Life at Base Camp: Brad Pitt, Grounded Family Man, Defies Rumors that He's About to Fly the Coop

Reading Brad Pitt’s Interview in Parade Magazine: Inside the Private World of Brad Pitt, it seems that his relationship with Angelina Jolie is very secure. For the feeding frenzy that wants a big breakup, because — after all — no couple should be this productive with their lives, Brad Pitt sounds philosophical and mature about his life.

I know — BORING! Where’s the melodrama in having satisfaction in your life. Bring us the angst, Brad. Where’s your inner bad boy! How about a mid-life crisis?

If Brad’s feeling confined and dominated by his partner Angelina Jolie (as I read just this afternoon at the grocery store checkout), we don’t hear it in the Parade Interview.

The questions are wide ranging with complete answers. Here’s a few, to wet your appetite:

Brad Pitt: Parade Magazine Interview August 2009Responding to Hurricane Katrina’s aftermath in New Orleans:

“I fell in love with the place after spending a lot of time on a film there (Interview With The Vampire, 1994) I found it to be an authentic city, and it’s still that. When Hurricane Katrina happened in 2005, I experienced the same outrage as everyone else who was watching the news at that time. I went down to see it for myself. I walked around the area and I thought, naively, ‘This isn’t too difficult to repair. We’ve just got to rebuild.’ I really had no idea of what I was talking about. To me, the whole thing was a justice issue. There’s a responsibility to correct that wrong. I think it’s the government’s responsibility. But I saw a way to help, and sometimes that’s what it takes, isn’t it?”
