Kate Upton Is Sensual Gorgeousness NYC Style for Sam Edelman by David Lipman

New York-based footwear brand Sam Edelman has hired the divine Kate Upton to front its new digital and print advertising campaign, lensed by David Lipman.

“It felt like the right time,” said Sam Edelman, designer and division president of his brand. “We had a major ad campaign with Charlotte Kemp Muhl 18 months ago. It carried us for a long time. [By choosing Kate,] it was a hell of a decision to go with an indie girl.” 

Lipman echoed that sentiment. “We chose Kate because she isn’t stick thin. She’s beautiful and all-American,” he said.

The brand went to Upton after she was photographed wearing a pair of Edelman equestrian-style boots. Both Kate and Edelman share a passion for horses, creating a bond that could go further, reports WWD. 

The campaign replaces a 2011 one — not nearly as sophisticated and of Terry Richardson vintage — with Charlotte Kemp Muhl.

2012: A Year of Kate Upton Proving Sophia Neophitou Dead Wrong

The saying any press is good press sure represents Kate Upton’s career in the last year. Upton started out being snubbed by Victoria’s Secrets Sophia Neophitou who famously said:

She’s like a footballer’s wife, with too-blond hair and that kind of face that anyone with enough money can buy

Kate Upton Inspires Us With Her Self Confidence

Sheesh! Statements like that would send must people crawling away with self-doubt. Neophitou proclaimed that Upton would never be able to grace the Victoria Secret runway, even though Upton had modeled in the Victoria Secrets catalogue a few times prior to that statement.

Upton’s having a fuller figure seemed for some a no-win for a modeling career, especially after Neophitou proclaimed her not fit for public consumption, Victoria’s Secret style.

Three cheers for Kate Upton, who heads the Models.com 2012 Breathrough Models list.

Kate Upton had a major male following after a YouTube video of her doing a famous dance called the “Dougie.” She showed everyone that in fact she wasn’t just a pretty face but a woman with personality, charisma and undaunting drive.

Like her or not, Kate Upton was determined to manage her own career.

If there wasn’t room in Neophitou’s fashion world for Kate Upton, she would make the room for herself. Upton was noticeably witty after the Victoria’s Secret fashion princess proclaimed her verdict, first reminding everyone that Gisele is a football wife and also the highest paid model in the world.

So what exactly is so bad about being a football wife? More importantly why was that okay for someone like Neophitou to say in a public forum called the New York Times? Who IS this chic anyway? Forgive me for not knowing.

For a Victoria’s Secret brand that focuses so much on sexuality, why wouldn’t a woman as beautiful and confident in her sexuality as Kate Upton not be considered the right fit?

REAL Supermodels To the Rescue

Upton has said that she would be the one to bring supermodels back and realizes that — despite these haters — she is relatable to the vast majority of women. Upton won over her female fan base when she spoke about not being able to fit into the sample sizes. What the heck. Neither could Marilyn Monroe!

Upton had heard it time and time again. “People told me I couldn’t be fashion, that I’m an old-fashioned body girl, only good for swimwear.”

The increasingly influential, ubiquitous model Kate Upton fronts the November issue of Cosmo magazine, wearing ‘Lustworthy Lingerie’. Talking about men, Kate says she enjoys ones with a good sense of humor and are relaxed. Upton also hates pickup lines, saying that in her opinion “all pickup lines are horrible — none of them work. You just walk up … make a fool of yourself. “

Kate Upton's 'Cat Daddy' Video Reinstated By YouTube

BigDaddy YouTube Reinstates Kate Upton Video

Today’s NY Daily News features Alexander Tamargo’s image of Kate Upton — much better imho than Terry Richardson’s — to update us on status of Kate’s ‘Cat Daddy’ video on YouTube. Kate’s rather salacious new video, released a couple days ago, was abruptly taken down on YouTube Wednesday morning for violating the website’s rules on nudity and sexual content.

I can attest to Kate’s assertion that there are many more videos on YouTube with much more salacious content. As is always the case with the demands by social conservatives that content is pornographic, their condemnation will drive video views higher.

YouTube officials eventually reached the same conclusion, writes NY Daily News.

“With the massive volume of videos on our site, sometimes we make the wrong call,” said a spokeswoman for the site.

“When it’s brought to our attention that a video has been removed mistakenly, we act quickly to reinstate it.”

BigDaddy YouTube Took Down Flogging Video, Too

My own experience with YouTube acting as the morality police is more serious. They consistently pulled down a terrible video of a woman being flogged in Sudan, because the floggers demanded it.  Coincidentally, I just reposted this video after the April 28 Unite Against the War on Women national march. The video files were next smuggled out of Sudan to women’s rights bloggers like myself. Posting the horrific video under the Anne of Carversville name on Vimeo, I knew it would stand. Then I contacted Bloomberg News as others reached out to CNN and the BBC.

Only after the major media let the flogging video stand on their websites, did YouTube relent on their own decision to ban it.

Kate Upton @ Muse Magazine, Says Gisele Is Footballer's Wife

Note | Nudity The high resolution images haven’t yet been released from Kate Upton’s Muse Magazine shoot with Sebastian Faena. The minis are available for viewing. It seems that Kate may just have that horrible Victoria’s Secret fashion show stylist Sophia Neophitou eating crow before she’s finished. Kate may be a model commoner — as Neophitou calls her — but she and Faena make sweet music with Kate channeling Marilyn Monroe for Muse Magazine.

Kate is darn quick-witted, throwing her own volley over the net against Neophitou. Despite Upton having appeared in print ads for Victoria’s Secret, Neophitou described the 5-foot-10 beauty as “like a Page 3 girl,” a reference to the British newspaper The Sun. “She’s like a footballer’s wife, with the too-blond hair and that kind of face that anyone with enough money can go out and buy.”

Upton responded: “Gisele’s a football player’s wife. Gisele’s in that category so I’m good.”

Given that Gisele is the highest-paid model in the world, making far more money than her husband, Kate rocks it with that true statement about her looking like a footballer’s wife. And just what IS wrong with Gisele? Just how did Sophia Neophitou become a spokesperson for Victoria’s Secret? I thought that was Monica Mitro’s or Ed Razek’s job.

There is so much interest in my own article about Kate Upton, perhaps because her body is one to be celebrated — as is her look.

Reflecting personally, let me share with readers that my 2Ps in a Pod column with a Catholic monk is now over. The skin care ads are down.

Why, you ask? Because a few self-appointed, very uppity people with mouths like Neophitou think that I’m a Page 3 girl, too. Too-blond hair and a slut-girl face. Decadent, disgustingly sensual — as Rick Santorum would say as he now turns to condemn sensuality, too — and a danger to humankind.

Blonds like Upton and me have no moral fiber, given our embrace of Smart Sensuality identities.

VS Stylist Says Kate Upton Is Too Fat; Anja Rubik Is Perfect?

Kate snapped by Sports Illustrated Assistant Editor MJ Day in Las Vegas.We featured Kate Upton’s 2011 Victoria’s Secret catalogue photos and noted that she wasn’t in the 2011 fashion show. So what?

Even I gulped when I saw the phone pics of some of Kate’s publicity stunts. With the social conservatives out in full force these days, VS must be extra careful of their affiliations. Pics like Kate’s left may go down with drunken guys at Hooters or even Yale, but they don’t get her credibility with organizations like Victoria’s Secret.

Nevertheless, Kate Upton has done a great job of building her career — and let’s not forget her credentials as an excellent, award-winning equestrian. Kate’s an all-American girl. Just like rebuilding General Motors, such a woman might become popular again. Don’t count her out

It drives good traffic and readers stick around our websites, converting to committed direct supporters. I learned long ago that our women readers love the same images as guys do — and we try to filter out the ones they wouldn’t.

You’re Kidding Me | Kate Upton Is Fat?

Bottom line, I’ve been on cruise control over the Kate Upton images until learning that the fashion industry is all holier-than-thou about Kate Upton being fat. OK, could somebody get me about four Advil. Yes, writes The Gloss, ‘Kate Upton Gets Hated On For Being Awesome’ and also Stop Calling Kate Upton Fat (It Makes You Sound Stupid).

Reading along, I’ve changed my mind. Forget the Advil. Please bring me a Bombay Sapphire martini straight up. I don’t believe this crap. The Gloss does not exaggerate.

We could leave it there had Sophia Neophitou, who just signed on as a key person in choosing models and themes for the Victoria’s Secret fashion shows, not absolutely brutalized Kate Upton in the public press this week. The stylist is also the founder of 10 Magazine and a major contributor to fashion’s obsession with size 0 models.

After her comments to the New York Times Style section this week about Kate Upton, Columbus Victoria’s Secret executives must be choking.

“We would never use” Ms. Upton for a Victoria’s Secret show, Ms. Neophitou said by telephone last week from London. And, while Ms. Upton has, in fact, modeled on occasion for the company’s catalog, her look, said Ms. Neophitou, is “too obvious” to be featured in what has become the most widely viewed runway show in the world.
